A thousand summers have passed in four short seasons
Each to leave the vine that clothes me
Stretched out in cascades of sunbeams and myrtle
And I wonder of the token of a broken moon
Elliptical and still as it filters into mind
Still warm in the waiting waters of surfeit pools
A blanket dancing out onto the willful sands
As time is always green and forward thinking
Leaving my imprint over sedge and sleeping sorrows
Memorizing halls that traveled into dreamed tomorrows
And I wonder of the blending of two colors
Making sense and filling voids of aqua and pine
Ticking out degrees of teal in its prime
Sky and water, the rain and rain dancer
Both vintages to be cherished in an undulating wave
When harmony is found at last the cast away of time
And pictures are immortal in their forever film
Small sounds draw the ear to listen and to hear
While arms extend the broadest welcome mat by far
Stretched out upon a carpet of soft breeze and bumble bees
Whittled notes form velvet throats up in the trees
Reminders take my hand recalling all of these
And green is just the symbol of a wanted child
Letting up the swallowed hardships as each day is smiled
Knowing all the chasms so familiar in the foot falls made
A way of reckoning a promise kept and sent to autumn glade
And carried into summer sounds of gems cupped in my palm
